Take Three

Jaz Lambeth
James Lambeth has established himself as Bath’s top male jazz and swing vocalist. His smooth vocal styling has gained a fine reputation since he moved to the west of England. He is front man for various bands in the south west as well as working in TV, stage, radio and film. The Lambeth Swing is comprised of the area’s best swing musicians with a wealth of experience between them. They have built up reputations in their own right playing with various groups across the country. Lambeth’s band play the Great American Songbook as it should be, smooth and swinging. Their repertoire includes everything from Ellington and Mercer to Gershwin and Cole Porter. They even sometimes play swinging versions of a few Smiths songs! Lambeth’s silky vocal technique always promises an evening of 30′s sophistication. With two EP releases under his belt, James is looking to release his first album in the autumn of 2011.

Guy Harrup

Gavin Lazarus
Likened to a young Tony Bennett, Gavin is a singer/songwriter and guitarist, performing a mixture of swing and jazz classics from The Great American songbook and beyond. Gavin leads his band of jazzers off the beaten path with some of some seldom-heard standards, as well as enduring favourites from the likes of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rodgers & Hart, Lerner & Loewe, Frank Loesser, Johnny Mercer etc. Expect the odd tinge of Latin and blues, plus a refreshing dip into the Louis Jordan songbook – there’s always one or two surprises from some more unlikely composers.             From dining to dancing, a good time is guaranteed.

Jazzhouse Trio
This “classic” jazz trio of Piano, Bass and Drums can play in the style of Oscar Peterson right through to the modern ESP. These excellent musicians have played with the country’s top jazz artists (see pictures with Art Themen, Pee Wee Ellis) and will play tasteful music as background to your night out.

Mike Collins
Mike Collins, piano; Dorian Sutton, bass; Trevor Davies, drums; have all established themselves as regulars on the jazz scene in Bristol.  Leader Mike Collins, has learned and developed as a jazz musician mainly ‘on the job’. After discovering the beauty and mysteries of jazz relatively late, he started by attending one of the legendary Glamorgan Summer Schools and subsequently returned a number of times. The experience of learning from and playing with some of the best players on the British scene (Stan Sulzman, Simon Purcell, Niki Iles, Liam Noble, Julian Siegel to name but a few) was inspirational. As well as playing regularly on the lively Bristol scene, and throughout the South West and Wales, Mike co-led a Quintet for a number of years with Pete Judge (Get the Blessing). The trio was described by Jazzwise magazine as ‘classy, EST – like’ and by Venue Magazine as ‘one of the best local exponents of the form’.

Rob Wilson

Lawley Wade  Trio / Quartet
The Lawley Wade Trio/Quartet is fronted by Yvonne Lawley whose first professional singing engagement was at the age of 13 (she has been singing for 20 years, sorry 20+ !) Wade Edwards invited her to join some of the areas most experienced jazz musicians and together they bring a selection from the ‘American Singing’ book plus unique interpretations of current tunes.

Clara Cecilia
Clara Cecilia recently graduated from Bath Spa University with a degree in Music where she studied Jazz Voice.Music, and particularly jazz,  has been a large part of Clara’s life. Since the age of thirteen, Clara has admired the greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Dionne Warwick, and has taken inspiration from them. Clara Cecilia is a versatile performer, comfortable in a range of styles including jazz, cabaret, soul, blues, swing and choral. In the past Clara has recorded backing vocals for a number of local bands and artists including Kill It Kid.

Lydian Quartet
The Lydian Quartet fuse modern and traditional jazz, to make a sound that is both refined and idiosyncratic. A combination of standards, and originals, with influences from Rio to New York to London to Cape Town.
The group has played everything from small cafes and jazz clubs, to the Iford Manor Jazz Festival. Lydian have the rare ability to appeal to listeners who are not normally jazz fans, while also gaining the respect of the regular jazz club goers. Expect a lively, charismatic, and fresh group, who bring energy and innovation to each new concert.
“A young and talented band with much energy!” – Listomania
