The sun has been shining, the drinks flowing and we love seeing the smiles and cheer back as life in Bath picks up speed again.
— Alex Peters, Green Park Brasserie, Director

What a 13 months

As we catch our breath to pen some news and thoughts, we really want to start by expressing our thanks and gratitude to all of our customers. Your ongoing support and messages through the pandemic have has been phenomenal.

You’ve enabled us to viably trade as takeaway only at Bath Pizza Co in the darkest of lockdown months in Jan and Feb seeing us through to our re-re-re-opening on 12 April last week. Not only that but your support through Lockdown 1, April/May/June and Lockdown 2, November which seem like a life time ago - was just incredible. We are throwing a party later this year to say thank you!

The knock-on effect of this support means jobs for local people, trade and economy with local Bath businesses, and security for our business - all of which we are hugely thankful for.

To say the hospitality sector has had a rollercoaster year would be rather an understatement.

We love what we do and feel we add something to our community. Bath is a colourful and vibrant city and we hope to be part of making it a wonderful place to live in, work in and visit. Every drink, bite and penny you contribute towards our business helps us to remain trading as one of Bath’s longest running independents - and making Bath a great place to be. We’re now very excited for the coming months and some regular sense of trading and life!

outdoor-summer-dining-in-bath.jpg

Now and the next few months

We are now open - with limited capacity but are incredibly excited at the prospect of welcoming many new and old faces to the Braz.

The sun has been shining, the drinks have been flowing and we love seeing the smiles and cheer back as life in Bath picks up speed again.

We’ve made some changes to our business in terms of the less-glamours stuff, including our seating, flooring, bar design and decoration - things we hope will add to our guest’s experience.

As it stands:

  • We reopened on 12 April on the front terrace, with our wonderful new bar drink list, cocktails, craft beers and wine alongside the food menu from our sister business Bath Pizza Co

  • May 19 will be when we reopen the Brasserie kitchen with a limited menu

  • From 19 May indoor dining and the back terrace at Bath Pizza Co will be open (please note bookings are only taken for inside dining)

  • Live music with jazz, funk, soul and swing will return from 19 May every Weds, Thurs, Fri & Stat night too - boy, we cannot wait!

  • For now 21 June looks set to be the “back to normal” situation

  • Please bare with us as we navigate the latest hospitality guidance as we adjust to new rules

We are taking bookings for indoor dining now ahead of mid May reopening inside and look forward to catching up and welcoming you the the Brasserie as soon as you can make it down.

Where to start? What a year it’s been! We’re looking forward to waving goodbye to 2020 and welcoming 2021 for what will hopefully be a better year for everyone.

We’d like to thank all of you who’ve helped us to weather the Covid-19 storm and supported us through an incredibly challenging period. We’ve been overwhelmed by the messages of support our local community has shown us — thank you. We hope that life and the hospitality sector will return to some form of normal soon.

Covid-19 has shown us how much of positive impact that hospitality has on people’s lives, we’re proud to be community focussed and to be a place to enable people to meet.

Live music

We’ll be running live music nights through the festive season and we’re already looking very busy for New Years Eve in Bath.

We’ve historically had a more formal 6 course NY party through to 1am but this year are unable to do so. With the current restrictions we’re closing at 11pm so will be treating the evening as we would a typical busy night — a lively atmosphere, fantastic food, drink and live music.

Menu News

Our seasonal specials will be regularly changing and running alongside our Winter Menu through into Feb/March. (Menu details).

We’ll also be running our popular £14.95 Steak Frites menu on New Year’s Eve, which is part of our new look steak offering which we’re very excited to share with our guests. See more about our steak menu here.

YOUR SUPPORT

Since we opened Green Park Brasserie in 1992 we’ve considered ourselves to have an important role in our community. 2020 has reinforced this as we adapted through the pandemic. We’re now looking forward to putting on several community events in the summer of 2021 to say thank you and look to celebrate (hopefully!) arriving on the other side! (Think big live music nights and plenty of flowing drinks!)

Some guests have asked about how else they can support us — we’re always incredibly grateful for reviews on places like Google or TripAdvisor, as these really help us as an independent, family run business.

Our thanks again for your support and we hope to welcome you over the festive period for food and drink, and to look forward to the new year together.

Bath Half Marathon 2020

Bath Half Marathon 2020

Bath Half Marathon 2020: Where to watch it, event details and timings

The Bath Half Marathon is almost up on us!

The Bath Half Marathon is a fantastic day for the city of Bath with thousands of runners and supporters cheering along the streets of the city centre. With the Bath Half Marathon almost here, we’ve put together a handy guide for the day with some commonly asked questions.

Good luck from everyone at Green Park Brasserie running on Sunday 15th!

Where should I go to watch the Bath Half Marathon?

There are designated “best viewing points” across the 13.2 mile route including outside us at Green Park Brasserie along Green Park Road. This is a great spot to enjoy a coffee and croissant and cheer the Bath Half Marathon runners along as this is a particularly wide stretch of the course and allows great viewing and a brilliant atmosphere. From here you can pass through Green Park Station to watch runners returning on the Lower Bristol Road stretch.

where-to-watch-the-bath-half-marathon-in-2020.jpg

When is the Bath Half Marathon?

The Bath Half Marathon is on Sunday 15th March 2020.

What time does the Bath Half Marathon start?

The Bath Half Marathon race starts at 11am with runners being staggered based on their estimated times.

What is the Bath Half Marathon route?

Starting and finishing on Great Pulteney Street, Bath Half Marathon loops down through Widcombe before crossing the River Avon at the bottom of Wells Road and tracking up to Green Park and onto Queen Square. From here runners take the Upper Bristol Road out past Victoria Park and past Windsor Bridge out through Weston to Newbridge Park and Ride. From here Bath Half Marathon runners cross back over the river and use the Lower Bristol Road to head back into Bath city centre with Twerton and Oldfield Park on their right hand side. This long stretch takes runners several miles back into the city centre passing Pines Way before reaching the bottom of Wells Road again where they make a left turn over Churchill Bridge for a second loop of the race.

Upon completion of the second lap (identical to the first) the runners ignore the Churchill Bridge turn off and enter the final mile and half back through Widcombe towards Bathwick St Mary's church at the bottom of Bathwick Hill before making a left turn down onto the final straight to cross the finish line on Great Pulteney Street.

Where is the Bath Half Marathon runners’ village area?

The Bath Half Marathon runners’ village is very close to the starting line on The Recreation Ground.

Is the Bath Half Marathon flat?

Yes, there are gentle inclines on the way up to Queen Square and out to Weston. Most of the route is flat making this a popular half marathon route.

What are the road closures for the Bath Half Marathon?

Many of Bath’s city centre roads are closed for most of the morning and some of the afternoon during the Bath Half Marathon. Check the Bath Half Marathon official website for full details of road closures.

Where is the Bath Half Marathon starting and finishing line?

The Bath Half Marathon starting and finishing points are the same place. This is on Great Pulteney Street in Bath city centre, near Laura Place.

Visiting Bath: 12 'must do' places & activities

Bath is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK and Europe. While there are hundreds of guides to visiting Bath, we've compiled our guide with 12 of the 'must do' places to see and activities to do in Bath.

visit-bath-green-park-brasserie

Bath Skyline

Bath's skyline trail is one of the most best ways to take in the city. Not only does the walk take in the beauty of Bath from different angles, it also gives visitors a perspective and appreciation for the size and geography of the city. The 10km route can be picked up and multiple points from Bath city centre. Our favourite point would be the view across the city centre from Bathwick Fields halfway up Bathwick Hill.

bath-by-paddle-board.jpg

Bath by Board

Bath is home to outdoor adventure company, Original Wild. These guys are the specialists in providing epic high quality adventures, experiences & training with one of their most popular outdoor adventures being SUP (stand-up paddle boarding). Take in Bath from the river through the city centre and up to Parade Gardens, the Weir and Pulteney Bridge then onto Bathampton with one of these fantastic tours.

Bath Rugby at The Rec

Rugby in Bath is like sport in no other city. With a rugby ground slap bang in the heart of the city with views back across to Bath Abbey and the city, the atmosphere in Bath town centre is unlike no other on match day. The Recreation Ground is nestled against the River Avon with views stretching up to the green hills that create the valley of the city centre. Possibly the most picturesque sports ground in the world, soak up the atmosphere of a match at the Rec, before soaking up a few drinks in one of Bath's pubs and bars.

If you're not a fan of heights you might be better off enjoying the Abbey interior, however, the Bath Abbey Tower Tour offers outstanding panoramic views across Bath city centre. Make sure you bring your camera!

Georgian Architecture Tour: Royal Crescent & Circus

Guide yourself slightly out of Bath's shopping streets from the top of Milsom Street and onto Gay Street. From here you'll join the Circus, one of Bath's architectural gems. After taking in the 360 degree triumph of John Wood (both Senior and Junior) head onto Brock Street (first left off the Circus). 250 yards along here and you'll join the world famous Royal Crescent, however,  before hand enjoy the eclectic independent shops and galleries along Margaret's Buildings - especially Bath Old Books shop at the top end of the street. From here you can walk along to the Royal Crescent and take in another of Bath's best know architectures. The green space between the Crescent and Royal Avenue is a fantastic spot in the summer months for picnics, ball games and taking in the views.

Spa Time: Bath Thermae Spa & The Roman Baths

The poster girl of many billboards and advertising spreads for Bath, the Bath Thermae Spa (below and lead image) is relatively new to the city, compared to the Roman Baths (above) whose hot water's have been bubbling away for thousands of years.

Bath Thermae Spa opened their doors in 2006 and have become one of the top attractions in Bath. Taking in views of Bath Abbey and the surrounding cityscape, the roof top pool is the headline act at Bath Thermae Spa. The Spa also has different spa pools including the open air roof top pool and Minerva Baths, as well as the Aroma Steam Rooms and additional treatments available to visitors.

Prior Park, National Trust

Slopping gardens, soaring views and a Palladien architecture masterclass, Prior Park is a Bath visitor spot not to miss. Run and managed by the National Trust, the grounds are accessible from the city centre if you're not afraid of a bit of a climb. The grounds are nestled between the steeping Ralph Allen Drive and Widcombe hill side, so the site is no flat to explore. However the tea room and Palladien bridge and ponds are on the flat for those accessing the site from the lower entrance. Prior Park Landscape Gardens link up with the Bath Skyline walk so you can build this into your trail.

Bath Farmers' Market

Hosted in the artisan Green Park Station, the Bath Farmers' Market runs every Saturday from 8am - 1.30pm. Farmers, cheese makers, bread bakers, local cider makers and free from cake bakers all attend this incredibly popular local farmers' market. You'll also find local venison steaks, local apple juice, local butchers and vegetable farmers all pitching up.

Bath's Canals and Waterways

Bath's most undersold asset, the canals that link the Bath to the hamlets, villages and towns that surround it are ideal for walkers, bikers and those with access to kayaks or barges.

Picking up the canal from Widcombe (a stones thrown from Bath Spa Railway Station) the 3 mile canal stretch to Bathampton to take in the fields and village surroundings as you leave the city is one not to miss - especially in the summer months. The George at Bathampton is the perfect incentive to get on the canal path. Cold ciders on the canal banks at the picturesque bridge at Bathampton is right up there with the more high profile Bath "must do's". Bath Canal is also accessible from Sydney Gardens behind the Holbourne Museum on Great Pulteney Street.

Top tip: the canals around Bath are fantastic flat running routes for any visitors looking to stretch their legs while visiting.

bath-weird-green-park-brasserie.jpeg

Parade Gardens & Bath Weir on the River Avon

The entrance to Parade Gardens can be found just off Orange Grove next to Bath Abbey - opposite the Garfunkel's restaurant. Another fantastic summer location for sunbathing, playing in the gardens and live music on the bandstand, Parade Gardens also has great views at water level looking up to the weir and Pulteney Bridge. Small entrance fee for non-residents.

margaret-buildings-in-bath.jpeg

Bath's Hidden Squares and Cobbled Streets

Only five to ten minutes from the busy shopping streets of Bath town centre are a collection of hidden squares and streets. Home to many local residents and some holiday apartments (get your hands on one if you can) these quiet yet central parts of Bath are worth exploring for their architecture and some with antique shops.

Places to explore - 5 to 10 mins walk from Bath city centre:

•  St James' Square, St James' Wine Vaults

•  Margaret's Buildings, Catherine Place, Rivers Street & Rivers Street Mews

•  Russell Street & Circus Place

•  Queen Square (more central and often with events and markets)

If you're feeling a little more adventurous - 15 mins walk from Bath city centre:

•  Lansdown Crescent, Somerset Crescent

•  Cavendish Road, Cavendish Crescent

• Norfolk Crescent, Great Stanhope Street

Horse Racing at Bath Racecourse, Lansdown

With a newly built roof terrace boasting impressive views of the course, horse racing in Bath at Lansdown is a wonderful afternoon out just ten minutes drive from Bath city centre. Packed with local ciders and ales racing outside of the city makes for a welcome break from the business of the city centre on weekends. Mid week meets for a more low key affair are certainly worth a visit.

Looking ahead: Christmas Parties

Looking ahead: Christmas Parties

At this time of year we’re looking ahead to our Christmas Party season here at Green Park Brasserie.

We’ve been tweaking our menu and making a few changes to how we’re going to decorate our restaurant and marquee.

In this blog post we’ve put together our top 6 tips for planning your Christmas party - whether that’s a work evening Christmas Dinner & Disco or a Christmas lunch event with friends or colleagues.

Christmas at Green Park Brasserie

Christmas at Green Park Brasserie

  1. Plan your Christmas Party early

Bath is well known for being very busy throughout December with Christmas Parties, Hen-dos and visitors to the Bath Christmas Market. Booking a venue before August is recommended by many Christmas Party venues in Bath to avoid disappointment.

  2. Decide what you type of event you want

There is so much choice in Bath for different style Christmas parties. We’re well known at the Brasserie for our evening dinner and disco parties, but we know that’s not everybody’s cup of tea. We also offer a lunch time 2 and 3 course Christmas party menu for local businesses and groups who are looking for a slower paced, more informal day time Christmas event.

  3. Ask around for dietary requirements

If you’re in charge of organising your work Christmas party then be sure to cover all bases when it comes to allergen and dietary requirements. Most Christmas party venues are well up to speed with providing suitable alternatives, but there’s nothing worse than not planning for specific dietary needs.

  4. Dress code: what to wear

This really is down to the type of event you’re planning for your Christmas Party. Bath has such a wide range of options from casual pub dining to formal sit down events with strict dress codes, this really depends on what style of venue you’re looking to book. Must of our Christmas Party events are smart casual with some guests choosing to dress up a little with Christmas dresses and we have seen the occasional full Santa costume over the years!

  5. Payment and dates

We’ve run Christmas Parties in Bath here at the Brasserie since our first year in business back in 1992. The one piece of advice we suggest is making sure people know when and how much the need to pay by. There’s nothing more awkward and annoying if you are the group organiser having to chase people up. Giving your friends or colleagues set dates to pay early on is very important and can avoid office awkwardness.

  6. Shared or Exclusive?

If you’re a large group you may wish to have an exclusive use Christmas Party venue to yourselves. Many Christmas Party venues in Bath offer shared parties when there will be groups of other local businesses, organisations or groups of friends making up the whole venue. While other spaces will offer exclusive use, although there is often an extra room hire fee involved.

Summer Specials

Summer Specials

Last month we launched our Summer Specials which have been flying out of the kitchen since mid-June.

Working closely with Bath and the South West’s local farmers and producers we create fresh, seasonal dishes throughout the year and are delighted to see the positive response our summer specials have had over the last few weeks.

“Our team are particularly excited about the new Hake special - the colour and flavours in this dish are very summery and the fish is so light. Fresh from our Cornish seafood supplier we have exceptional sources available. Our creamy white wine, asparagus and dijon sauce complement the texture of the fish brilliantly alongside the other elements of this dish.
